Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) provides a learner with the opportunity to be recognised for the knowledge he acquired through on-the-job experience.
RPL is useful as the first step in the training process, as it provides learner with the opportunity to be recognised for knowledge acquired previously.
Tipp Focus Training follows a flexible approach to training. This flexibility allows us to tailor-make our training course according to each individual’s requirements. Through this approach, we obtain the learner’s previous qualification and experience, match it to the unit standards and identify possible gaps in order to obtain the full qualification
The RPL process consists of the following steps:
- Explain the process and requirements to the candidate
- Gather the evidence
- Match evidence to the unit standard criteria
- Discuss possible additional evidence to be submitted
- Complete a Portfolio of evidence according to unit standard guidelines
- Assess the portfolio
- Allow the learner to add additional information, if needed
- Assess the additional information
- Provide feedback and development information to the candidate
Moderation of the Portfolios of evidence is done internally and externally and the SETA is involved in the process. Learner registrations are done on the National Learner Registration database.
TIPP FOCUS Training is working with the LG SETA in piloting Recognition of Prior Learning for the MFMP in Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) and has received approval to extend this to Nelson Mandela Metorpolitan municipality (NMMM). TIPP FOCUS TRAINING is the first service provider to interact with the LG SETA in embarking on the process of actively implementing RPL for the MFMP.
